Believe in Me, Oprah does! (Well, in my mind she does!)

October 7, 2010

Day 7 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  BELIEVE

This is a great word for me because I have so many new beliefs!  I believe in ME for the first time in my life and I believe I’m in control of my destiny.  It’s a scary thought but so liberating at the same time!

A few years ago I believed that I was like “Eeyore” from Winnie the Pooh!  No matter what I did, I couldn’t catch a break!  I believed my illness (Fibromyalgia) defined me and that my future had far less opportunities in it than my healthier counterparts!  I’m so thankful that I discovered the book The Secret!  It changed everything I believed and it opened up my life to an amazing future!

I’ve been out of whack all week!  I had my Eeyore mentality back.  With today being “Believe” day, I reviewed some of my beliefs I wrote in a journal, and Yea, it got me back to my optimistic self!  So I started the day believing in my self and I’m ending my day believing in my self!  And it was great day in between!

Truly believing in yourself is an amazing change you can do for yourself.  But if you’re like me, you might need to start out small.

  • Before you go to bed, tell yourself 1 positive thing.  Like “I am a great Mom”, or “I am the best employee”.
  • Now picture other people saying that about you and FEEL how it would feel if the real person was saying it!  Whenever I start a new belief, I usually picture “Oprah” saying it!  Can you hear her singing my praises?  Well I can and what a great motivator that is for me.
  • I only do that a few times until I feel excited about my new belief and then I picture myself OWNING this belief!  I AM THE BEST WHATEVER I WANT TO BE BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!

As long as you BELIEVE in yourself you can accomplish anything!  It’s all in what you BELIEVE!  If you BELIEVE you are weak, you probably are, if you BELIEVE you are Strong, you will find inner-strength that will amaze you!

I’m so glad today was BELIEVE day for me!

Keeping an eye out for Beauty!

October 6, 2010

Day 6 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word: BEAUTIFUL

I work on one of the most beautiful pieces of land in my state and I don’t take it for granted! Whenever I get a chance, I take a walk to see what beautiful changes are happening on the property. I knew I’d see something beautiful today!

The most beautiful thing I saw today were the trees on the side of building. They are half turning colors, the bottoms are green and they gradiate to red! It’s beautiful. I’m sure the trees have been doing that for a week and I’m so thankful I finally noticed them. I’ve been paying attention to the trees turning gold leaves but somehow I missed the red ones. I was on the search for beauty and I found it first thing in the morning! I think I’m going to plan to search for beauty everyday!

Adventure – How Do You Add it to Your Life?

October 6, 2010

Day 5 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Croatia

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Today’s Word:  ADVENTURE

Well I’ve discovered I have no sense of adventure in my life and I’ve been kinda down since realizing it!  The last time I felt adventurous; was on my vacation in the Mediterranean.  Every 2 or 3 days I was in a new country and I would wake up so excited & ready to see what this day would bring.  It was a great 3 weeks!

So how do I bring that feeling to me everyday or maybe just weekly or even monthly?   I don’t enjoy my job anymore, so there is no adventure going on there.  My social life is static.  Just going out to eat with friends a few times a week, shopping on the weekends and monthly family get-togethers.  It’s not boring, but it’s just predictable and so not adventurous!

How do you add adventure into your daily life?  I’d live to hear your story!

To Forgive is Divine!

October 4, 2010

Day 4 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  FORGIVE

Ugh! One of my least favorite words.  It is such a complicated topic for me.  I know the only way to happiness is to forgive and not hold on to issues, but that is easier said than done…

I have a terrible relationship with my Dad, and when I realized it wasn’t going to get any better I decided to stop being in contact with him.  Over the past few years, all of the anger I had at my Dad is gone and I’d describe this feeling as forgiveness, but I still don’t want him in my life.  Is that forgiveness or am I just coping so that I can move on?  If I truly forgave him, shouldn’t I want him in my life?

My day has been focused mostly on this issue and I haven’t figured out the answer.    I’ve been hoping for some illuminating message to guide me through this situation but so far it’s just me with my thoughts.  I did get in some productive time today, forgiving  (& releasing) myself from all the dumb things I’ve done over the years and forgiving those who have “wronged” me.  But as far as my Dad goes I’m exactly where I was when this day started.  Ugh!

So as this day concludes I’ll spend some time meditating and try to figure out why I still have the “Dad-Door” cracked opened.  Maybe I need to forgive myself for moving on…hmmm I might be on to something :-D

I found my Thrill!

October 3, 2010

Day 3 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word: THRILL

Sundays are not usually thrilling days for me. It usually consists of laundry, reading, and time with the family, etc…. When I got my calendar reminder late last night and it showed that tomorrow’s word is “Thrill”, I have to say I wasn’t thrilled. I like my quiet “boring” Sundays.

I went to sleep last night with basically a negative view for the following day. What could possibly lead to a thrilling Sunday and will I even enjoy breaking from my routine? Well it turns out my thrill wasn’t accompanied by a big brass band or balloons falling from the sky, instead it came in a very tiny and very cute package! It was a visit from my 3-year-old Nephew (his parents came too but they are just chopped liver when he’s around).

My Nephew has had a difficult start to life and has had some learning issues. As a result his speech is not where it should be. Communicating has been very difficult for him. To my shock my Nephew started talking and he was speaking as clear as a bell! I understood everything he said. What a thrill! I was having a conversation with my Nephew for the first time! I forgot that thrilling events don’t have to be heart-pounding adventures; they can just be pleasant unexpected moments! What a great day!

A Day Focused on Abundance

October 2, 2010

Day 2 of my 31 words in 31 days experiment!

Today’s Word:  ABUNDANCE

4 or 5 years ago I would have described “Abundance” as having a lot of money or stuff.  Now, that is not my focus when I think of the word “Abundance”.  For me what I want an abundance of is laughter, love, joy, & health just to name a few!  So I had big expectations for my day of Abundance.

Well it didn’t turn out as expected.  Last night before going to bed I focused my thoughts on an abundance of energy and laughter.  I woke up full of energy and made a big healthy breakfast!  Immediately after, my energy level dropped and I couldn’t focus.  I have Fibromyalgia, so this isn’t unusual.  I took a catnap and ran some errands.  I went out for dinner and now I’m writing my blog.  Not exactly the day of abundance I thought I’d have.  But just as I’m writing this, I started to realize that I did encounter a lot of abundance today.
•    I had an abundance of time that allowed me to take a nap.
•    I had an abundance of food to let me make a big breakfast.
•    I had an abundance of laughs at dinner with my Mom.

Yesterdays “Inspiration” was so dead on, I expected a literal translation of the word “Abundance”, I thought I’d be laughing all day and having so much energy I’d accomplish a ton.  Today was a great lesson for me.  I need to stop needing an external influence and start enjoying the abundance already in my life!

New Project – 31 Words in 31 Days

October 1, 2010

Today I’m starting a new project.  Everyday this month I’m going to focus on a positive word.  It’s kind of an experiment.  I have felt myself going in a very negative direction; from work, to friends; to my family, I’m just not myself.  So this experiment is see if I can shift my energy by using the power of words.

Today’s Word: INSPIRATION

Venice Window

A window in Venice, Italy

As a creative person, I think inspiration is everywhere but lately I haven’t been noticing anything I’d classify as “inspiring”.  So to get me out of this funk, I pulled out my photos from Italy.  These don’t always inspire me, but they make me happy.  As I was going through them, I realized I haven’t taken any beautiful pictures lately.  So I grabbed a few of my favorite photos hung them in my office and went on with my day.

Later in the morning, I had to run an errand in another building and during my walk I was noticing all of these picture perfect moments.  The way the sun was shining through the trees, a squirrel watching me from behind a rock, a late-blooming flower, inspiration was everywhere!  It didn’t matter that I didn’t have my camera with me.  I was so happy I was seeing all of these wonderful things.  Now, most of these things were there yesterday when I took the same walk, but today I noticed them!  I wanted inspiration to come to me but what I really needed was to open my eyes to the inspirational world around me.  Inspiration is everywhere!
