New Project – 31 Words in 31 Days

October 1, 2010

Today I’m starting a new project.  Everyday this month I’m going to focus on a positive word.  It’s kind of an experiment.  I have felt myself going in a very negative direction; from work, to friends; to my family, I’m just not myself.  So this experiment is see if I can shift my energy by using the power of words.

Today’s Word: INSPIRATION

Venice Window

A window in Venice, Italy

As a creative person, I think inspiration is everywhere but lately I haven’t been noticing anything I’d classify as “inspiring”.  So to get me out of this funk, I pulled out my photos from Italy.  These don’t always inspire me, but they make me happy.  As I was going through them, I realized I haven’t taken any beautiful pictures lately.  So I grabbed a few of my favorite photos hung them in my office and went on with my day.

Later in the morning, I had to run an errand in another building and during my walk I was noticing all of these picture perfect moments.  The way the sun was shining through the trees, a squirrel watching me from behind a rock, a late-blooming flower, inspiration was everywhere!  It didn’t matter that I didn’t have my camera with me.  I was so happy I was seeing all of these wonderful things.  Now, most of these things were there yesterday when I took the same walk, but today I noticed them!  I wanted inspiration to come to me but what I really needed was to open my eyes to the inspirational world around me.  Inspiration is everywhere!
